A fictional lullaby for a child on a refugee boat. Dedicated to Alan Kurdi, the Syrian toddler whose pictures went around the world in 2015 when he washed up drowned on the Turkish coast. In the pictures, it almost seems as if the three-year-old is sleeping on the beach.
A rescue ship of the sea rescue organization Sea-Watch also bears the name Alan Kurdi. The video for it was created in collaboration with Sea-Watch and calls for donations for the organization.
lyrics
DESPERATE LULLABY (Song for Alan)
Soon our journey will come to an end
And then you’ll wake up in the promised land
I know that you are scared and so am I
Rest in my arms this will all soon go by
We will make it one day
Somehow, we’ll find a way
When we are lost and all our hope is gone
Desperation keeps us going on
And we’re drifting for days
Plaything of turning waves
Until - we are washed to the shore
Sleep some more
Hide in my arms from all that you fear
My voice and my heartbeat is all that you hear
I’ll sing in the dark to soothe you and me
Desperate lullaby of where we long to be
We will make it one day
Somehow, we’ll find a way
When we are lost …
When we are lost and all our hope is gone
Desperation keeps us going on
And we’re drifting for days
Plaything of turning waves
But hey, we will make it one day
Somehow, we’ll find a way
We will make it one day
Somehow, we’ll find a way
We will make it one day
Sleep some more
Combining crooned murder ballads with raw, angsty hard rock hooks, Melbourne's The Ugly Kings are a wrecking crew well worth watching. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 15, 2021

The perfect blend of naive enthusiasm and unfiltered rock 'n' roll danger, leading to an explosive, raw sound. Volcanic, pure, and crushing. Bandcamp New & Notable May 30, 2017
